Today’s Topics:

1) Prudence is the ability to govern and discipline oneself by the use of reason. It is one of the four Cardinal virtues (which are Prudence, Justice, Fortitude, and Temperance).  Saint Thomas Aquinas writes that “prudence is right reason in action.”

2) The Book of Proverbs 2:2 states, “That thy ear may hearken to wisdom: Incline thy heart to know prudence.”  Also in 9:10, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is prudence.”

3) Saint Augustine says that prudence is “the knowledge of what to seek and what to avoid.”  He also states, “Prudence is the knowledge of what to seek and what to avoid.”  Pope Saint John Paul II said, “So prudence is the key for the accomplishment of the fundamental task that each of us has received from God.”

4) The Knights of Columbus has programs that enable men to help form their conscience which is essential to a prudential life.  Some of these are:  the Holy Hour, Into the Breach, 40 Days For Life.  The Vivat Jesus Spiritual Planner is a resource that can assist a person in their daily prayer life.
