11 Apr 22 – Wisdom Through Fear of the Lord

Today’s Topics:

1)  The Catechism of the Catholic Church states, “We receive the gift of Fear of the Lord to fill us with a dread of sin.”  The Book of Psalms 33:8 says, “The angel of the Lord shall encamp round about them that fear him: and shall deliver them.”

2)  “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul:
but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Matthew 10:28.  The Martyrologium in the Divine Office Prima, gives a daily account of men and women whose bodies were “destroyed” but their souls could not be “killed.”  Proverbs 1:7 tells us, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Fools despise wisdom and instruction.”

3)  In regards to Fear of the Lord, Venerable Fulton J. Sheen recounts, “Curiously enough, it is a fear of how grace will change and improve us that keeps many souls away from God.  We want God to take us as we are and let us stay that way.”

4)  Saint Hilary Poitiers directs us, “We must begin by crying out for wisdom. We must hand over
to our intellect the duty of making every decision…  For us the fear of God consists wholly in love, and perfect love of God brings our fear of Him to its perfection.”
