Today’s Topics:
1) Greg and Mark discuss the devotion of Christopher Columbus to Mary. The apparition of Our Lady of Pillar led to the foundation of Catholicism in Spain
2) The invasion of the Moors / Muslims into the Iberian Peninsula in 711 AD led to the burying of a statue of Mary. In 1326 AD a shepherd was led by Mary to find the statue which came to be known as Our Lady of Guadalupe Extremadura
3) Columbus sights land on October 11, 1492, which is the feast day of Mary the Mother of God. He steps on land the next day on October 12th, the Feast of Our Lady of Pillar. 40 years later the people of the “New World” are by and large not converted to Catholicism. Mary appears as Our Lady of Guadalupe to Juan Diego and the miracle of the tilma leads to 9 million conversions over the next decade
4) 40 years after Our Lady of Guadalupe’s appearance in Mexico City, a copy of the image is on the lead ship of Don Juan of Austria in the great victory of the Battle of Lepanto over the Muslims. Greg and Mark discuss how Our Lady has a major role in the Knights of Columbus. The Silver Rose Program is conducted in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe and her pro-life mission
